On 11th June I went to Latvia with a group. Even though it was June, it was very cold and it rained all day. Firstly we visited Ungurmuiža manor. Ungurmuiža manor house ensemble with the Baroque style manor house is the only architectural monument of the 18th century wooden buildings preserved in Latvia. The manor house was built by Baron von Campenhausen in 1732 as the family house.´The interior paintings are surprisingly well-preserved. At present the manor house is being restored to its former splendour.
Järgmisena läksime Ligatne punkrisse. Ligatne punker asub 9 m sügavusel maa all ja sellesse on rajatud Lätit valitsenud kommunistliku eliidi tuumasõjavarjend. Tervelt 30 aastat ei teadnud taastusravikeskuse töötajad ja külastajad, mis asub nende jalge all. Varjendis on säilinud tollest ajastust pärit ehtsad eksponaadid.
Next we went to Ligatne bunker. Ligatne Bunker, constructed nine meters beneath the ground, was intended
to serve as a shelter for Latvia’s Communist elite in case of a
hypothetical nuclear war. The secrecy shrouding the bunker was so great that for 30 years,
employees and clients of the adjacent rehabilitation center remained
unaware of the underground structure underneath their feet. Displayed at the shelter are authentic exhibits which have survived there from Soviet times.
Järgmisena läksime Cesise ordulossi varemetesse. Cesise ehk Võnnu linn tekkis juba 800 aastat tagasi. Linna tekkelugu
seostub Võnnu ordulinnusega, mille ümber moodustus 13. sajandil linn.
Next we went to Cesis castle ruins. The beginnings of the town of Cēsis can be traced back to 800 years ago.
They are related to the mediaeval Cēsis castle, around which, in the
13th century, a town appeared.
